Central Market

|
Comprised of the open-air market on Vodnikov trg, the covered market on Pogacarjev trg, and Plecnik's arcade, Ljubljana's Central Market is the city's main place of commerce, with just about everything you could ever dream of on hand and for sale. Over these two city blocks you''ll find an endless array of natural and local food products (horse pate, anyone?), as well as art and handicrafts, souvenirs, flowers, the works. The Plecnik Arcade is the market's showpiece: trussed with classical columns, this Renaissance-style masterpiece follows the curve of the river and is one of the city's major architectural attractions. In sum, the Central Market is unrivalled almost anywhere in its ability to please the palate and the eye; a perusal of its stalls is a rewarding requirement for any visitor of the city. Open 8:00 to 18:00, Monday to Saturday; 8:00 to 16:00 in winter. | |
