If the sun is shining, then everywhere you look you will see people riding around on these uniquely-painted bikes. Ljubljana Bike, or Ljubljansko Kolo, is a city-run scheme with the aim of making it possible and easy for everyone to just hop on a bike and go where they want. The prices are ridiculously cheap, starting at around 100SIT per hour - that's about 30 English pence! They can be picked up from any one of eight different points around the city centre. These points are: The Tir Bar (at the main train station), Slovenian Tourist Information Centre, Kavarna Plocnik open-air cafe (in Presernov trg), the ice-cream stand on Nazorjeva Ulica, Lido Bar (in Mali trg), Le Petit Cafe (in trg francoske revolucije), Cezar Bar (at Bavarski Dvor), or the Tramvaj Pizza Outlet (in the trg mladinskih delovnih brigad square.)

It's definitely harder to get a bike than it should be, but not impossible. I managed to get one, but I was travelling by myself, and the bike was nothing special.

I forget one thing. When the pressure in back wheel of a bike i used to use fall too much, i asked in Lj info to pump it. They said they'll call repair man. After 5 days of waiting i occasionally get to petrol station. There is pump for cars, and this fits bike's wheels too.

Oh, Gum, i understand you!
Today is the last day of our (me, my wife and our 4-years-old child) 3-week stay in Ljubljana. LJ is a great place for cycling. But get a bike is still serious problem. Especially with child seat. There is only 2 (two) such bike in Ljubljana and whole Slovenia (except Bled). 30 minute ago i get to krekova trg only to see, how family with 2 childs took both bikes. Good idea - to provide bike rentals, but bad realization.
PS. bikes like those for rent costs about 50 euro in a shop.

I've gotta bike,
you can ride it if ya like,
it's got a basket, a bell that rings and things that make it look good. I'd let you have it if I could, but I borrowed it

I was in Ljubljana in the summer of 2006 and went around to every damn place in the city (about 12) trying to get a bike. No one had one. Correction: no one had a bike they would rent to me. See all those bikes in the picture? (I remember this place specifically) - they "don't work." Ah, but they look fine don't they?... If you want to make a living in this beautiful city (I know I sound bitter, but Ljub is great) then start a bike repair company. All these places told me they were waiting for some guy to come from out of town and fix the bikes. Apparently no one from Ljubljana can operate an air pump or change an innertube. Pathetic. Please tell me this has changed...
