In 2003, Ljubljana finally got its first proper art cinema when Kinodvor opened on the 80th anniversary of Ljubljana's first film theatre. This famous theatre by the main train station was a successful art venue for over 60 years before ownership changed and it served as an erotic film cinema through the 80s and 90s. Now under the patronage of the Slovenian Cinematheque, Kinodvor is the home of European independent cinema in Ljubljana with a diverse programme concentrating on contemporary world cinema, American independent cinema, cult films and classics in redistribution, and Slovenian non-commercial film productions. An exhibition space, bistro and film library of film media and literature can also be found in Kinodvor.
