Unesco World Heritage lists Ljubljana Marshes Sites

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee has included a number of prehistoric pile-dwelling settlements in the Alpine area in its famed list, including two sites in the Ljubljana Marshes.
These two sites are in the area of the village of Ig, in the wetlands of the Ljubljana Marshes, which known for its unique flora and fauna. The oldest pile-dwelling (stilt house-dwelling) settlements in the Marshes date back to the Middle Stone age (approximately 5000 BC), with the latest findings dating back to the Bronze age (approximately 1000 BC). Found in the Marshes were over 10 000 objects, including the oldest surviving wooden wheel (dating back to 3350 and 3100 BC) now kept in museums in Ljubljana and across the world.
