Travellers with a taste for classical music will find some intriguing things on the menu this year. Ljubljana is celebrating the centenary of the Slovenian Philharmonic, and a special jubilee programme has been prepared.

The celebrations kicked off on Sunday 13th January with a gala concert at the Philharmonic Hall. Prior to the performance, Culture Minister Maryan Kozina unveiled a bust of Marjan Kozina, outstanding Slovenian composer and erstwhile director of the Philharmonic. Kozina's opera, Equinox, is being revived as part of the festivities.

The current Philharmonic Hall was constructed in 1891 after a fire destroyed the state theatre. The fully fledged orchestra was established in October 1908, drawing on the traditions of previous musical societies.
