Occupying the mid-18th century Cekin Mansion in Tivoli Park, this museum educates on the heritage of recent Slovenian history from the 20th century to the present day. The collection of historical artefacts and archive documents, fine art works and photographs covers both World Wars and the period between, as well Slovenia's socialist period and the turbulent process of establishing it as an independent state. Though the exhibits are in Slovenian, you can get a guide with English translations. It may not sound like a thrill-a-minute, but this well-presented museum is an enlightening and important destination for anyone seeking to unravel the complexities of the conflicts in former Yugoslavia and Slovenia's path to sovereignty.
